LENTEN RITES at San Fernando, Cutud Pampanga

Mamalaspas
Men sacrifice themselves by wiping their backs with a wipe made with a rope and sharp edge bamboos. They cover their heads and embellished with colorful flowers or leaves. The reason why they cover their heads is to show that it’s a personal sacrifice. They also walk barefoot along the streets.

Its a vow (Panata) made in faith for a recovery from serious illnesses,
or even gratefulness from not being ill at all for their entire lives

MAMUSAN KRUS  - carry cross
MAMALASPAS- bleed and whip themselves
MAGSALIBATBAT- crawl/walking using their knees in the hot street.
KRISTOS -nailed on cross
